My name is Sean Graefen. I am a graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) who is ready to dive into the professional world of Game Development.
My main focus as an environment artist is the development of modular 3D assets that can be tiled to create game worlds that are fun to play in. I primarily work in 3D software such as Maya and Zbrush to create assets that are both visually interesting and very cleanly made. I also have an extensive background working with procedural PBR materials which I create in Substance Designer, apply in Substance Painter, and render using Unreal Engine.
My goal as an artist is to ensure that all of my work has a strong sense of stylistic continuity and visual storytelling. While characters have the benefit of being able to discuss who they are as people, environments have to set the tone of a game without saying anything. By knowing what to include in a scene and when to include it, I can treat an environment as a background but not as a missed opportunity.
As someone who has at one time or another worked as a concept artist, game designer, character artist, and more recently, art director, I have come to understand what each artist requires from others both before and after them in the pipeline. It is because of this experience that I know how to coordinate and communicate well in a team setting to ensure quality across every asset that is created. I am still very young as an artist, but I’m incredibly willing to learn and step out of my comfort zone in order to learn how to produce the best product I can.
